Balanced white
An illustrative preview: your screen, room finishes and chosen lights affect the colours you see. Dimming, adjustable white and colour scenes require compatible lighting. A scene can bring several lights together from one button or your chosen automation.
A little less wasted light
What do lights left on actually cost?
Smart lighting is about convenience, comfort and the right atmosphere. Switching off lights you don’t need can also reduce energy use. Explore the figures for your home.
The cost of unnecessary lighting
£4.61per year, based on your inputs
- Unnecessary energy per day
- 0.048 kWh
- Average cost per month
- £0.38
All lighting use entered: £23.06 per year at 26.32p/kWh.
What could automation change?
Presence detection or an all-off routine could help avoid some of those unnecessary hours. Choose a scenario to compare.
Adjust your inputs to explore an example.
*Illustrative lighting-use reduction, not a guaranteed bill saving. The percentage is your assumption, not a measured performance claim. Extra electricity used by smart bulbs, sensors and hubs is not included.
With efficient LEDs, the money involved can be modest. The bigger reasons to choose smart lighting are useful automations, easy control and scenes that suit the way you live. If you already switch lights off reliably, there may be little energy to save.
How we calculate this · assumptions and sources
Daily unnecessary energy = number of lights × watts per light × unnecessary hours ÷ 1,000. Cost = energy in kWh × your unit price. A year uses 365 days; an average month is the yearly figure divided by 12. The same daily pattern and tariff are assumed throughout, so this is not a tariff forecast.
Use an average wattage and daily use for the lights you enter. For different groups, try separate calculations. For a time-of-use tariff, use the rate for those hours or a suitable average. Standing charges are excluded because using less lighting does not remove them. This model excludes installation costs, smart-device power use, dimming effects and changes in behaviour.
Actual results depend on the number and wattage of lights, occupancy, usage patterns, electricity tariff and existing habits. Smart lighting does not automatically mean lower bills.
Tariff checked 4 October 2026: Ofgem unit rates (GB average; rates vary by region and payment method). Lighting guidance: Energy Saving Trust. Northern Ireland has separate tariffs — use your own bill.
The right sensor for the room
Still there. Still comfortable.
Compare motion and presence sensing side by side. The same room, the same person — a different result when they sit still.
Presence sensor
Light offPress Play to compare motion and presence together.
Reduced motion is on. Use Next step to explore still scenes, or choose Play.
An illustrative comparison with time shortened. The light-off delay is chosen for your home, not fixed to the few seconds shown here. Detection depends on sensor type, placement, coverage and settings. Daylight checks can prevent lights coming on when they aren’t needed.
Motion: for passing through
Notices movement and can bring the lights on as you walk past. A delay keeps them on briefly after the last movement.
Good fits: hallways, landings, porches, stairs and utility areas.
Presence: for staying comfortable
Suitable presence sensors can detect small movements while you sit, read or work, helping the light stay on without waving your arms.
Good fits: living rooms, kitchens, offices, bathrooms and WCs.
Technology example: Aqara’s explanation of motion and radar presence detection. We select and set up suitable sensors for each room.

One less thing
to remember.
Everyday ease, from arriving home to heading out.
Keep familiar wall switches while your lights lend a hand. Five sensor-controlled areas respond as you move around, and a single scene gets your included lights ready for leaving home, holidays or movie night.
Automatic lighting · five areas
Hallway and landing motion sensors switch lights on when it’s dark enough, then off after an adjustable delay. Presence sensors in the living room, kitchen and bathroom keep lights on while occupied and turn them off after the space is empty. Bedrooms remain under switch, app and scene control.
Away mode · leave with confidence
Activate Away in the app to turn all included lights off and pause the normal presence-lighting rules. Activate Home when you return to restore automatic lighting.
Holiday mode · a lived-in look
Enable Holiday in the app to run a configured sequence of selected lights coming on and off at varied evening times. Disable it on your return. This helps your home look occupied and may deter opportunistic intruders; it is not a security guarantee.
Movie mode · settle in
Start Movie in the app to switch the main living-room light off and pause automatic lighting in that room. End Movie to restore normal control. This package uses on/off lighting; dimmed lamps are added in Package 2.
What’s included & example layout
- 3 × single Aqara H1 switches: bedrooms.
- 4 × double Aqara H1 switches: hallway/stairs, landing/stairs, living room and kitchen.
- 1 × Aqara T2 relay: bathroom lighting.
- 1 × Aqara Hub M3.
- 3 × FP300 presence sensors: living room, kitchen and bathroom.
- 2 × P2 motion sensors: hallway and landing.
The hallway and landing two-way arrangement, bathroom/toilet location and exact switch configuration are checked during the survey. Existing two-way circuits may need a different control arrangement, agreed before fitting.
Example installed price. Suitable wiring and existing back boxes at least 35 mm deep required.
Plan Package 1Package 2 · Three-bedroom home example
From busy mornings
to softer evenings.
More comfort. More scenes. Control where you need it.
Everything in Package 1, with two wireless scene switches, three smart bulbs and porch-light control. Create a calmer evening, switch off shared spaces from bed and leave home with one press.
Automatic lighting · day & night
The same five sensor areas as Package 1, with darkness checks and adjustable off delays. At night, landing motion can bring on the included landing smart bulb at a low, warm brightness.
Away & Home · by the front door
Press the configured front-door scene button to turn off included indoor lights and pause normal presence rules. Use Home to restore them. The app gives you the same control.
Holiday mode · while you’re away
An app scene enables varied evening on/off sequences across selected lights, creating a lived-in appearance. Stop Holiday and restore normal routines when you return. It may help deter opportunistic intruders, without guaranteeing security.
Movie mode · your sofa, your scene
Turn the main living-room light off, dim the two included lamp bulbs to your chosen setting and pause living-room automatic lighting. End Movie to restore the normal routine.
Evening mode · unwind
Recall soft, warm lighting on the included living-room lamp bulbs at a chosen time or with a scene. Adjust brightness and choose colours in the app to suit the mood.
Night mode · one bedside press
Turn off included shared-area and porch lights while leaving bedroom lights unchanged. Pause normal bright-light routines; keep low, warm landing lighting available on motion. Restore normal routines with Home or an agreed morning schedule.
Bedside control · stay comfortable
Use the bedroom wireless switch for the main bedroom light and assigned Night/Home scene actions. No need to cross the room to switch off.
Porch lighting · a warmer welcome
The second relay controls a suitable existing porch light. Set an evening schedule, use a front-door button, or include a timed light on departure. No outdoor motion sensor is included.
What’s included & example layout
All Package 1 equipment, plus:
- 2 × Aqara H1 wireless scene switches: bedside and front door.
- 1 × additional Aqara T2 relay: porch lighting.
- 3 × smart bulbs: two living-room lamps and one landing light, subject to compatible fittings.
Dimming and colour scenes apply to the included compatible smart bulbs, not every light in the home. Lamps, new light fittings and new porch wiring are not included. Button assignments and scene timing are personalised during setup.
Example installed price. Suitable wiring and existing back boxes at least 35 mm deep required.

Colour, dimming & feature lighting
Choose compatible RGB bulbs, tunable white light, an Aqara ceiling light or feature lighting for media units and kitchen cabinets. LED strips, power supplies and any additional wiring are individually designed and quoted.
Hands-free comfort
Add presence and motion sensors where they help most. Lights respond to occupancy and darkness, with brightness and delays matched to each room.
Evening, Movie & Night
Bring multiple lights together into warm evening scenes, dim movie settings and gentle night routes. Define which rooms switch off and which stay available.
Away & Holiday
One action switches selected lights off when you leave. Scheduled holiday sequences create the appearance of occupancy while you’re away.
Wake-up & reading
Schedule a gradual increase in compatible smart-light brightness for waking, or recall a brighter reading scene at your favourite chair.
More ways to control
Choose H2 wall switches, extra wireless scene buttons or compatible control panels. Add app and supported voice-platform control, with any extra devices or hub requirements confirmed in your quote.
Power monitoring
Include neutral-wired H2 switches to monitor the electricity used by their connected lighting circuits. Use the information to understand use and refine schedules.
A more connected home
Add suitable porch or outdoor lighting, or have lights respond to a compatible doorbell or door/window sensor. Additional sensors, devices, integration work and outdoor-rated equipment are quoted as needed.
These are design possibilities, not a fixed bundle. Device compatibility, wiring and installation requirements are checked for your chosen specification.
Design my lightingLess waste. More everyday value.
Only the light
you need.
Occupancy rules can switch lights off in empty rooms. Darkness checks avoid unnecessary daytime lighting, while schedules help stop lights being left on. Choose a package with sensors for automatic occupancy control, or start with timers and scenes.
Energy savings depend on your existing lighting, settings and how you use your home. H2 power monitoring requires suitable neutral wiring and measures its connected circuit.
Start here. Grow from here.
A starting point,
not a limit.
Add more rooms, bulbs, wireless buttons or sensors when you’re ready. You can also explore compatible heating and security devices for routines that work together.
We plan expansion around your hub and devices. Some additions require a different hub, extra hardware or installation work, so you can decide what to add and when.
A clear quote before we fit
Let’s check
your home.
We confirm the wiring, fittings, control layout and the scenes you want before installation. These packages are examples, with a final specification agreed for your property.
35 mm back boxes + suitable wiring
All wall-switch installations require existing back boxes at least 35 mm deep and suitable wiring. Depth alone does not confirm suitability: usable space, wiring condition, circuit layout and the chosen equipment must also be checked.
- Neutral wiring is required for H2 power monitoring and for T2 relay installations.
- Smart bulbs need compatible fittings and a suitable arrangement that keeps them powered for smart control.
- Staircase two-way circuits, bathroom relay positions and porch lighting are assessed before the equipment layout is confirmed.
- Example prices cover the listed equipment, standard fitting, scene setup and a demonstration. New back boxes, rewiring, extra fittings or other remedial work are quoted separately and agreed before work begins.
